One-to-One Dog Behaviour Training

Individual problem solving support

Private, One-to-One training sessions

These can be arranged at a time and place to suit you and your family. Topics can range from establishing the ‘home rules’ for new puppies, through to ‘bringing home a baby’, improving your dog’s recall, or helping you with specific training needs.

For more serious behavioural problems

A One-to-One initial consultation is the best place to start. Once the extent of the problem is understood we’ll offer practical advice and solutions, and a bespoke training plan will be put in place.

Zoom Consultations

Ideal if free-time is limited. We’ll get a clear understanding of whatever it is that you might be struggling with. And, because these sessions are on a one-to-one basis, you get the benefit of bespoke advice based around you and your particular circumstances. Also, the timing can be flexible to suit you!

Any behaviour that is rewarding, or gets a result, is likely to be repeated in the future. Unfortunately, our dogs aren’t born knowing the difference between good & bad behaviour so it’s up to us to teach them the difference in a way that they understand. If a behaviour has got out of hand then you may well need help to redress the balance.

It’s also worth remembering that it’s only our perception of a behaviour that determines whether it’s ‘good’ or ‘bad’.  For example:

  • If owner A. has a dog that barks all the time, then they might say that they have a badly behaved dog that’s disturbing the neighbours. Whereas someone else might say that they have the makings of a good guard dog. Teaching that dog to speak on command is a great way to control barking.

  • If owner B. has a dog that jumps up all the time at people and work surfaces, then they might think that their dog is unruly. Whereas someone else might say that they have the makings of a good agility dog. Teaching that dog self-control and release games is a great way to control enthusiasm.

Q. What’s the difference between a dog trainer and a behaviourist?

A. The main difference lies in the approach…

A trainer teaches a dog to do something, whereas a behaviourist teaches them not to do something.

Most good dog trainers know a great deal about dog behaviour and can help you to deal with the majority of common dog training and behaviour problems. They will also be able to advise you if a referral to a clinical behaviourist should be considered for a complex or psychological problem.
